Credit union welcomes banking tie up

Playing a key role in delivering Lloyds Banking Group's Helping Britain Prosper Plan, branches of Lloyds Bank and Halifax in our common bond area are working with London Capital Credit Union to ensure customers are signposted towards financial solutions that best meet their needs.

As a not-for-profit co-operative, London Capital Credit Union is dedicated to promoting saving and dealing with debt. By reinvesting any interest from loans into our credit union we help more people with lower interest loans.

In a pioneering project, customers of both Lloyds and Halifax Banks in Barnet, Camden, City of London, Hackney, Haringey or Islington will be given the opportunity to find out more about London Capital Credit Union, where the credit union can complement the Bank’s service.

Martin Groombridge, Chief Executive of London Capital Credit Union, said: “For over 50 years credit unions have offered a fair and affordable co-operative alternative to high interest lenders and we are proud to be working with Lloyds Banking Group to help more people avoid high interest credit. At the same time, we also offer secure savings products so that our members can save for a rainy day and so avoid the need for credit in the future.”

Speaking about the initiative, Jonathan Shawcross, Lloyds Banking Group Ambassador for London, said: Our Helping Britain Prosper Plan aims to address some of the big issues facing the country today – one of which is financial inclusion. For those customers who we are unfortunately unable to help in London, we will now guide them towards London Capital Credit Union who may be able to help them access affordable credit.

This latest referral scheme complements that run in conjunction with Barclays Bank, which has seen customers of Barclays being referred to our credit union over the past nine months.
