Supporting community football

The Credit Union is pleased to support local football clubs such as Enfield Town FC, the UK’s first supporter owned club.

It is not uncommon to hear complaints about ‘modern football’, yet the national game is generally recognised as an important part of our culture. The Credit Union is pleased to support smaller local clubs that are important to communities getting young people involved in physical activities and encouraging community spirit.

One such club is Enfield Town FC, which was the UK’s first supporter owned club. The club was reborn in 2001 following the sad demise of Enfield FC. Since then the first team has climbed the leagues to play in the Ryman Premier League.

The club boasts FA Charter Standard Community Club status and over 20 teams including youth, ladies teams for all ages as well as a disability side. In 2012 the club finally moved to a home of its own: the stunning Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Donkey Lane. The ground had been derelict, but its grade II listed buildings have been restored and modernised and it includes a running track.

Since settling in at the stadium the first team has had great success in competitions at various levels. Find out more about Enfield Town FC on their website and why not go along to a game to support them?
