Doing our bit to reduce climate change

2016 was the warmest year on record and human activity is contributing to the rise in global temperatures, so we should all do what we can to reduce our impact on the planet.

The Paris Agreement in November 2016 is the world’s first comprehensive climate agreement. It aims to limit the increase in global temperatures to reduce climate change. Research shows that the earth’s average temperature has risen by 0.8 degrees Celsius since 1880, with two thirds of the increase taking place since 1975.

Although some people may question the impact of climate change, it is beyond doubt that human activity is having at least some effect on the rise in global temperatures, as ice caps melt, sea levels rise and storms get worse.

So it makes sense to do what we can to reduce our impact on the planet, whether that means recycling more, choosing sustainable options, using the car a little less, or switching to renewable energy. Just making minor changes, such as turning the lights off when you leave the room or turning down the thermostat by a degree or two can make a difference, and save money too!
