The coronavirus pandemic has created financial uncertainties for many people, but there is help and advice available when you need it.
The first place to look is the Money Management page of our website. There is a good deal of information and advice about how to manage your money and what to do if you get into debt. There are also links to helpful organisations, such as the Money Advice Service, which offers free independent advice on a wide range of things from savings and borrowing, to benefits and pensions.
The Money Advice Service also has a dedicated section on its website about coronavirus money guidance, and it offers lots of links to other helpful agencies and sources of advice.
If you’re struggling with your money and would like to talk to someone at the Credit Union, or to discuss any issues with repaying your Credit Union loan, please do contact us. Our Money Advisors are impartial and won’t judge you, and will be able to suggest the different courses of action open to you.
As well as providing low cost loans and secure ethical savings, one of the key objectives of the Credit Union is to provide training and education to its members on the wise use of their money and the management of their financial affairs.
Martin Groombridge, Chief Executive of the Credit Union, said: “There are times in nearly everyone’s life when things get tough and getting by can be a real struggle. From unexpected bills to ill health and redundancy, sometimes it can be hard to find a way out. But we would urge our members not to suffer in silence and to talk to us, or one of the other helpful organisations out there, such as the Money Advice Service.
“Things can be sorted out more quickly if you don’t bury your head in the sand and allow debts or high cost loans to build up. Sometimes just a friendly voice at the end of the phone can help you to see things more clearly and plan a way forward.”
