Who can join the Credit Union?

If you have never joined a credit union before, then now could be the perfect time to sign up!

There are credit unions all over the UK (and the world!) serving their local communities as well as different groups of people such as employees, trade union members and church congregations. Our Credit Union is open to many people in London and across the UK.

A credit union is a financial co-operative owned and controlled by its members, but government regulations mean that our members need to belong to clearly identified groups of people. Our ‘common bond’ is broken down into four categories and if you fit into any of these, then you are eligible to join our Credit Union.

  1. Live, work, study or worship in any of these areas of London:
  • Barnet
  • Brent
  • Camden
  • City of London
  • Enfield
  • Hackney
  • Haringey
  • Islington
  • Waltham Forest

  1. Are a member or employee of The Co-operative Group (The Co-op) in London and the South East region. If you live in this area and shop at the Co-op from time to time, then you can become eligible to join our Credit Union by joining the Co-operative Group.
  2.  Are a member of UNITE the Union or UNISON in the Greater London region.
  3. Are an employee of one of a number of employersanywhere in the UK, including Circle Housing Group, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Middlesex University, TfL Transport for London, Action on Hearing Loss / RNID and many more…

Martin Groombridge, Chief Executive of the Credit Union, said: “It’s more important than ever this year for people to manage their money carefully, and that’s where credit unions can help. As well as a safe haven for savings and access to money management advice when you need it, we offer our members fair and affordable loans.

“The sooner you join, the sooner you can benefit from our services. When it comes to finances, we’ve got your back when you need us!”
