When health circumstances change and people need mobility equipment or adaptations to their home – often at short notice – there can be huge expense involved. Our low-cost Saver Loan could help.
While many people are entitled to local authority support when their health situation requires specialist equipment or home adaptations, often there is a waiting list, and not everything required is provided free of charge. Sometimes the need is urgent, and people can’t wait for support to be provided. They may then end up taking out high-cost loans to pay for the vital things they need.
If you, or a member of your family, need adaptations or mobility equipment not provided by your local authority or other organisation, please do talk to us about how we can help with the cost. Rather than turning to high interest credit card loans and bank overdrafts, or dodgy doorstep and payday lenders, talk to us about one of our Saver Loans.
Our low-cost Saver Loan allows our Credit Union members to borrow what they need now, at very competitive rates of interest, while also putting away some money for the future.
Wheelchair user Shaun, who has muscular dystrophy, said: “As my health condition gets worse, I regularly need new equipment for my home and sometimes adaptions are needed quickly. While my local authority is quite good at providing support, their budgets are stretched and not everything is covered. Sometimes my circumstances mean I just need to go ahead and purchase the equipment I need, when I need it – for my well-being as well as my carer’s.”
At the credit union, we also provide money management advice and we can signpost our members to the relevant support agencies.
While financial assistance for the right equipment is important, we recognise that many disabled people are on very low incomes and struggle to make ends meet. If you, or anyone you know needs some extra financial help, please do contact us as we may be able to keep some of the most vulnerable members of society out of the clutches of loan sharks and high interest lenders.
To apply for a Saver Loan, you must first join the Credit Union as a member. When your loan is approved, and if you are not already a member, you must open your account with a minimum £50 deposit to your savings account.
