DONATIONS – Volunteer Support Programme
We are seeking donations to support our volunteers who are trying to prevent problem debts, and dealing with the consequences of debt and poverty.
The Credit Union is not registered as a charity because it sells services however it is widely considered that our aims and objectives are broadly charitable. The following are extracts from our rules:
Social Objectives
- To contribute towards the alleviation of poverty within the community; and
- To contribute towards the economic regeneration of the community.
This is achieved by:
- promotion of thrift among its members by the accumulation of their savings;
- creation of sources of credit for the members at a fair and reasonable rate of interest;
- use and control of membersТ savings for their mutual benefit; and
- training and education of members in the wise use of money and in the management of their financial affairs.
Key to being able to deliver our low cost services to membersТ in need is our large and growing team of volunteers. The roles they carry out are enormously varied. When you call or email us it is most likely to be a volunteer that deals with your query. As well as office duties volunteers carry out roles as wide as membership of the board of directors to cleaning the office. Without our volunteers we simply could not keep growing and meeting the needs of people desperate to move away from borrowing and into financial stability.
Our volunteers are members who are seeking paid work and want to stay active, gain new skills and help others in the process. Often volunteers are recovering from illness or have come to this country to escape civil war or famine in their home country and want to give something back to the country that has given them a safe home.
We offer friendly support to improve written and spoken English, a wide range of work experience, and help people rebuild their confidence and improve their CVs so they can get back into paid work. We are very successful in getting our volunteers into paid jobs by improving skills and boosting self-confidence.
How Can You Help?
It is important to us that we are able to pay out of pocket expenses to people who give up their time as volunteers to help the credit union help others. In order to pay for travel, out of pocket lunch expenses and the costs of training we are seeking financial donations small or not so small. Every bit helps.
You can donate to our volunteer support programme by send a cheque payable to “London Capital Credit Union (volunteers)”, or by making a payment direct from your bank to our own.
